We're inviting fellow community members of Fedora Project Philippines to join us in celebrating Software Freedom Day at the Ateneo de Manila University this coming 18 September 2010.
We need people to man the booth, help operate a Freedom Toaster, smile at the attendees, distribute give-aways, and field questions about Fedora Project from time to time.
Aside from the booth, we're also having three talks by Fedora Ambassadors and we need all the claps that you can make
SFDs have always been fun and we want everybody who's free to join us on the 18th. |

Linux Day 2010 @ UP ITTC azneita ambassador 15 posts | Saturday, Aug 28, 2010, 9:09 AM
The University of the Philippines Information Technology Training Center (UP ITTC) was established by the Japanese and Philippine governments through the University of the Philippines (UP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to address the inadequate practical training and industry experience of Filipino IT graduates.
The UP ITTC administers the one-year Certificate in Information Technology training program with emphasis on the following specializations: Applications Development, Network Systems, and Mobile Computing and Embedded Systems.
Fedora Project Philippines successfully held a Linux Overview Talk with UP ITTC's newest batch of trainees last 25 August 2010 as part of its celebrations for Linux Day this year.
Special thanks to UP ITTC trainers Sonia Pascua and Jordan Centeno for making the event possible.

Helping UP Institute of Chemistry azneita ambassador 15 posts | Sunday, Jul 11, 2010, 8:23 PM
We have an ongoing discussion[1] on how Filipino Fedora Contributors can help the UP Institute of Chemistry (IC) get their bearings back after being hit by a fire earlier during the semester[2] which left most of its laboratories, classrooms and facilities burnt and damaged irreparably. Fortunately enough for IC, they are currently constructing a new building that although still bare and incomplete, can now be used to start anew.
At this point, I would like to point out that although UP is a premier university in the Philippines, it is state-run and have to contend with other branches of government for funding. In the Philippines, that is at least a year-long wait and the Institute can ill afford such a delay.
The IC students and alumni spearheaded a project, PhoenICs: Out of the Ashes, which aims to raise the necessary funds to hasten the rehabilitation of the Institute. They are currently organizing a fund-raising concert titled "rakCHEMrol" on July 30 at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni Building inside the UP Campus. Expected attendance is at 2000.
It has long been established that Filipino Fedora Ambassadors would like to help and as Mel have said it earlier, we want to do it Fedora-style. It has been proposed that Fedora sponsor the event for PHP 15k in return for (1) acknowledgment by the hosts during the event, (2) plain text acknowledgment during presentation, (3) tertiary billing on all promotional materials, (4) 10 second video commercial during the event, (5) flyers to 80% of attendees, (6) option to set up a booth, (7) 3" x 4" banner in the venue AND permission to distribute a UP Chemistry remix based on Fedora 13 to attendees.
It has the makings of other events we had run so far EXCEPT that we're now giving out money for the sponsorship, we're not dealing with the usual CS+Engg crowd, we're going to give away a custom Fedora remix and this would be our biggest UP event to date.
And did I mention we're helping a good cause.
-----
Full disclosure: Fedora Ambassadors Heherson Pagcaliwagan, Engels Antonio and Magie Antonio are UP Alumni. Mel Chua has strong ties to UP (her parents are alumni and her cousin is a student).

It Was Indeed Fun! azneita ambassador 15 posts | Sunday, May 30, 2010, 1:02 AM
We just had a very successful Release Party at Gerry's Grill Restaurant, SM North EDSA SkyGarden earlier this evening. Attendees include (from left to right) Henry Hutalle Jr. of Progressive Software, Orlee Pasion of Bayan Telecommunications, Jose Mari Guevara of Bosch Philippines, Heherson Pagcaliwagan of Fedora Philippines and Dona Grace of University of the Philippines - Diliman. This is Henry and Orlee's first Fedora event.
Aside from the usual shop talk, the group discussed future plans for Fedora activities in the Philippines. Among the activities outlined are expanded presence in the upcoming Software Freedom Day and POSSE. Expanding our network was also put on the board - linkages with other techgroups, schools and media outfits. A Facebook "like page" for Fedora activities in the Philippines was also agreed upon by the group.
Together with Engels and Maj Antonio who have earlier expressed their regret for not being able to attend the event, this group will serve as our core team for our upcoming events. Fun! Fun!
Update: Album seems to have been broken. While waiting to have it fixed, other pictures are here.
Update: Album is now fixed! |
